Tapestry & Embroidery

Cloth based artwork is stretched as square as possible onto acid neutral* board. Lighter weight embroidery and cross stitch is stretched onto perfect mount which has an acid neutral adhesive layer. The excess is further stretched and taped-off behind the board. Mountcards are attached with a bead of textile adhesive, so that the cloth is held stretched by 3 separate components which help to eliminate rippling over time.

Heavier weighted canvasses such as tapestries will not stay stretched out firmly with adhesive products. Consequently, we staple these stretched out onto acid neutral board. The staples are applied well clear of the image area and covered by mountcard.

We would also recommend that a double mountcard is used to lift the glass clear the stitching and threads.

*Please note we use the term ACID-NEUTRAL, as no form of paper based product can strictly be termed as acid-free. Most are treated to reduce or neutralise the acid (lignin) within the materials.
